HAL 9000 ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK
|
Where did Hal 9000 come from?
In the early 70’s a movie was made titled “2001 a Space Odyssey“.
One of the main characters in the movie was a computer named “Hal”, model 9000. Hal ran a Space Ship that was going to the Jupiter area of our Galaxy. Hal became a little out of kilter and began killing all the crew members one by one.
The Last crew member left was a fellow named “Dave”.
One of the most famous lines of this movie was given to Dave when he went outside the spacecraft to do a repair.
Upon returning to the spacecraft Dave said to Hal “Hal please open the Pod doors“. Hal’s reply was, “ I’m sorry Dave but I just can’t do that”.
Dave eventually makes it back inside and begins disconnecting “Hal” from his duties. If you haven’t seen this Movie, get a copy and watch it. I’m sure you will enjoy it.
During the time period of this Movie I was running a Trailer Manufacturing Co. in Irwindale, Ca. . I had several Custom Painters working for me and while I was gone delivering a trailer to the beach area these painters took it upon themselves to paint my office door with the following: “Hal 9000’ ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK”. The door was complete with renderings of a computer. That name has stuck since and I have continued to enjoy using it in all my endeavors.
